Preparation and Analysis of MBS based Glass-Ceramic for LTCC Applications

In this paper the MBS (Magnesium borosilicate) based glass-ceramic have been prepared and characterised to find its suitability in Low temperature cofired ceramics (LTCC) technology. The glass-ceramics were prepared by using conventional solid state route. The experimental study was conducted on the MBS glass-ceramic containing MAS (Magnesium Alumino-Silicate) based glass-ceramic as an additive and its results were compared with the pure MBS glass-ceramic. Axial and radial shrinkage data were calculated. The effects of MAS addition on the densification and shrinkage anisotropy after sintering of MBS glass-ceramic samples were investigated. A microwave dielectric characterization was also performed in order to evaluate the suitability of MBS glassceramics as a low permittivity dielectric substrate. These glass-ceramics are found attractive as microwave dielectric materials for usage as LTCC) substrate. Keyword— Glass-ceramics, Crystallisation, Thermal Expansion, Microwave dielectric properties.
